Umberto Eco - A tegnap island
Product description
The Island of Yesterday is a kind of found manuscript. It is a delightfully original read, mixed with Descartes, Galileo and Spinoza, Marino and John Donne, Vermeer, Arcimboldó and all kinds of oddities. It is about a baroque youth whose fate transforms him from the defender of the heroic castle of Casale, besieged by the Spanish, to a free-thinking Parisian lover, then to a prisoner of the Bastille, Mazarin's secret agent and finally shipwrecked in the South Seas.
Finally? His shipwreck is unusual: "since the world began, I am probably the only representative of our human race who has been shipwrecked on an abandoned ship," writes the former young man, Roberto de la Grive, on the seemingly uninhabited ship. And the uninhabited ship anchors not far from an island (from the legendary Solomon Island beyond the "antipodal meridian" line?) and is laden with all earthly goods, but apart from caged tropical birds, there is not a soul on board. A real ghost ship. Or rather...Roberto notices increasingly strange signs of the presence of a mysterious Other, no less mysterious. Who could it be? Hasonmás, who has lived in his fantasy since childhood, because of which he got into trouble and then into the sea?
The reader will get answers to such and similar questions. However, the final answers seem to be offered by the Island of Yesterday. You should get through. But how? Roberto can't swim.
Will it succeed?
The hero of the novel practices, writes letters to the Lady of his Heart while practicing, remembers, and imagines. In the end, he decides to take his fate into his own hands. Opens a door in the Palace of Impossibility. Enter the novel of the property.
