Stockett Kathryn - A segítség
Product description
The American writer Kathryn Stockett (1969) was born in Jackson, she previously wrote for magazines in New York, and then she began her period work under the influence of 9/11, on which she worked for five years, and it took several more years before a publisher undertook to publish it.
The Help takes us to the early sixties, to Jackson, a typical small town in the American South, where whites feel that segregation is the eternal order of the world, and blacks never dare to express their true feelings. But meanwhile, the black civil rights movement is already taking place elsewhere, and news of the gradual, slow easing is reaching the small town. Skeeter, a middle-class white girl coming out of university with writing ambitions, wants to write a book of interviews about the servants, so that for the first time in history they can tell their own lives and situations. At first, Skeeter is only fueled by naive, childish ambition, but after getting to know these women, taking part in their fate, risking his life for them, he becomes a brave adult. And the "servants" realize that enduring daily humiliation is not included in anyone's job description, not even domestic employees.
Stockett's 2009 book became a huge success, topping the bestseller lists for months, being compared to Gone with the Wind, and since its publication, it has been translated into 42 languages. Octavia Spencer won an Oscar for her performance in the 2011 film from the novel. Even now, the story is generating significant social changes worldwide.
