The volume aims to introduce and bring together its two major themes with the phenomenon of the visual turn, which can be observed in various art forms and in science, as well as with the theoretical framework of conceptual metaphor: the wide-ranging questions related to representation in French poetry and theater. In the first chapters of the book, we discuss two contemporary French poetic trends whose relation to the image is different but decisive (Yves Bonnefoy and Lorand Gaspar, as well as Jean-Michel Maulpoix). In the second half of the volume, we have selected some theater practices that are the human image, the human "idol" they attempt to destroy and reassemble it (Grotowski, Kantor, Barba, Novarina), and in this process they also use the tools of poetry. The common denominator of these theatrical practices, among which Valére Novarina's oeuvre is highlighted, is that they not only repeat the process of self-emptying in their dramaturgy, but also give it a fundamental place in acting management. The second part, therefore, without denying other sources of inspiration for theatrical practices, attempts to apply the theological kenosis concept, which can be considered central to Novarina's oeuvre, in theater and theater studies, and in this it relies especially on the theological aesthetics of H. U. von Balthasar, the works of Xavier Tilliette, Simone Weil's theater and kenosis concept, as well as the works of Kálvin, Karl Barth, Paul Tillich and Kazoh Kitamori. Valére Novarina's essay Túl a sakrálison, published in the appendix of the Hungarian-language monograph on the authors discussed, is now being published for the first time in a Hungarian translation. . He is a translator of the works of Yves Bonnefoy, Valére Novarina and Jean-Michel Maulpoix, and his research interests include modern and contemporary French poetry and theater, as well as contemporary mysticism.
