"Novel of the Year." Times

An amazing and wise development novel, the story of a first love that hits you with high voltage.

At school, Connell and Marianne almost avoid each other. Conell is a real community person, the star of the school football team, Marianne is a lonely, proud and withdrawn girl. When Connell goes to pick up his mother, who works at Marianne's house, a strange, irreplaceable relationship is created between the two teenagers, which they are determined to keep secret. After graduation, they both end up at the same university, and in later years they don't drift apart from each other either. Their relationship becomes more and more complex and contradictory, filled with unspoken tensions.

Sally Rooney presents the social embeddedness, family background and circle of friends of two young people from a small rural town with different financial statuses in her terse, restrained prose with a brilliant psychological sense, sometimes cruel, other times more tender.

Sally Rooney lives in Dublin. Normal People is his second novel to be nominated for the 2018 Man Booker Prize.
In 2017, he won the Sunday Times/PFD Young Writers Award for his first volume, Conversations with Friends. He is the editor of Stinging Fly, a biannual literary magazine.

Sally Rooney's book, Normal People, was one of the biggest hits of 2018/19, so it's no wonder that so many people were waiting for its film adaptation.

The 12-part miniseries is available on the HBO channel.
