The novel Appetite for Prayers invites its readers on a special journey through the Hungary of the regime change. On the day of János Kádár's funeral, July 14, 1989, István Vitus prepares to leave a major marked by a number, moves to Budapest, and as he moves further and further away from the countryside of his childhood, he rebuilds the former Pereg within himself, gives identity to the settlement, just as the country is searching for itself , and of course, eighteen-year-old Vitus himself. On this particular day, everything happens to him, sex, drugs and rock and roll. And most importantly, he will fall in love. Just a year later, during the taxi blockade, he is already preparing for his wedding, which could easily be missed and end in a failure like the country that lost its faith seemed lost after the free elections in October 1990.
