Paul Auster - Leviatán (2018)

"Six days ago, a man blew himself up on the side of the road in northern Wisconsin. There were no witnesses, but it appears he was sitting in the grass next to his parked car when the bomb he was making accidentally detonated."

Peter Aaron and Benjamin Sachs are writers with similar characters, but they are at different points in their lives: Sachs has been happily married for a long time, has published a novel, his intellect is admirable, and he is on the best path to success. Meanwhile, Peter has just started on the field and is stumbling in his personal life, so he understandably looks up to his friend. But then, due to an accident, Sachs's personality changes radically, and the man suddenly disappears from the lives of his family and friends. Then, when a strange series of assassinations begins across America, and a figure appears, whom many consider a terrorist and many a national hero, Peter describes Sachs' true story in order to protect his friend's memory - this is how he tries to find a way through the maze of subjective truths.

Leviathan is one of the most outstanding and political pieces of Auster's oeuvre, it examines friendship and love as personal themes, and freedom and political action on an ideological level.

The novel, which is considered by both the audience and the critics to be one of the author's masterpieces, is the third piece in Auster's oeuvre series.
