Product description
Ágnes Klára Papp's volume examines the space-time relations of urban depictions in modern and postmodern Hungarian novels in the light of the change of perspective known in the international humanities as the ``spatial turn'' and the literary and cultural theoretical ideas that follow from it or are consistent with it. The first part analyzes the small-town poetics of Hungarian modernism at the turn of the century (selected works by Margit Kaffka, Móricz, Kosztolányi, Krúdy, and Benő Karácsony), which are noteworthy in terms of thematic presentation, primarily going around the small-town-metropolis dichotomy. The second part examines the two novels of Géza Ottlik and Péter Lengyel by comparing modern and postmodern city depictions, and then the characteristics of space-time representation in Hungarian magical realist prose (based on the prose of Lajos Grendel, Nándor Gion, László Papp Kolozsvári and Béla Fehér). In the third part of the volume, in the light of the findings of post-colonial literary studies and cultural theory, joining the paradigm-changing dialogue of the Hungarian literary studies discourse, he rethinks the definitions of minority literature and related concepts (motherland, canon, etc.), and then analyzes in the context of this theoretical discourse Zsolt Láng & #34;pseudohistorical" his novels, his space-time relations permeated by magical realism.
