We are in late 12th century England and the country is divided. King Richard I, widely known as Richard the Lionheart, leads the Third Crusade in the Holy Land against Saladin's forces. Meanwhile, János Földnélküli, II. Henry's younger son, and also Richard's younger brother, sits on the throne and rules as king. His allies, most notably the judge of Nottingham, incite resistance across the country and work to prevent Richard from returning.

In the Richard the Lionheart board game, you personify characters on the side of King Richard or his brother János Földnélküli. During the game, you will travel all over England to influence the ongoing crusade in favor of your faction and collect prestige points for yourself. You must cooperate with the other players of your faction in order for your king to ascend the throne! To win, you not only have to collect the most prestige points, but you also have to be among the members of the winning faction at the end of Richard's Holy Land Crusade. At the end of the game, only one player will be the winner.
