The Sárgaházi etudes are a meeting of two men in the courtyard of a mental hospital. The slow unfolding of their memories, swirling in space and time. Stories from Bulgaria and Hungary before the regime change, fragments of memories of wars, escape, loss. About a grandmother, her fight against sexism, and the story of her lonely motherhood. About how we can face the sins of previous generations.
Kiril Nagy's first novel holds a mirror up to us with ironic insight, and in it we willy-nilly see the sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic slippages of our own world. Magical realism on the thin line between fiction and historical reality.
