Product description
Imre Nagy is a literary historian, professor emeritus of the University of Pécs. His main research area is the 18th and 19th centuries. Hungarian literature of the 20th century, he published many books on this topic. More recently, his interest has also extended to the 20th century (Öttorony, 2013, The second gate, 2015), and the present book was created from this research, which discusses the life work of the excellent literary scholar and cultural historian, Nándor Várkonyi, with a monographic requirement. The author places the figure of Várkonyi in a network of literary relationships, and presents his relationship with his contemporaries, including Béla Hamvas, Sándor Weöres and János Kodolányi. He analyzes the individual works by associating theoretical and historical aspects, thus the columns of Sziriat, which are in the crossfire of debates. A significant part of this work, consisting of four voluminous books, was handed down in manuscript form and only recently became available in print. Imre Nagy's book is a work of pioneering importance, which discusses Várkonyi's oeuvre in its context of literary and ideological history, and interprets it in terms of a critique of modernity. The work also contains an index.
