Móra Ferenc - Hannibal feltámasztása
Product description
Ferenc Móra (1879-1934) is one of the most significant Hungarian writers of the 20th century, but few people know that he also left behind an outstanding work as a museologist.
He wrote the short novel The Resurrection of Hannibal in 1924, but it had to wait until 1949 for its publication. Magyar Nemzet published it in sequels, and it was first published in a separate volume in 1955. Zoltán Fábri's highly successful film, Teacher Hannibal, based on the novel, was released for a year.
These are the antecedents, but at the beginning of the 2000s, the writers found a big surprise!
The original manuscript was found, and it turned out: the censors of the communist era changed it quite a bit, sometimes to the exact opposite meaning. The restored, uncensored text is presented in this volume.
In the vitriolic satire, the classics-philologist returns home from Russian captivity to post-Trianon Hungary, where they fear the Red Revolution, stigmatize the Jews, and obscure real social conditions with the fog of oniony national myths. When the teacher evaluates Hannibal and the victory of barbarism over education from a new perspective, his case swells into a national scandal, celebrated by the representatives of stupidity and prejudice.
