The Dictionary of the Khazars is a novel by the Serbian writer Milorad Pavić, first published in 1984, and it is written in the form of a lexicon. Often compared to Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose, it is regarded as a classic of modern literature. The book tells the story of the Khazars, who built a considerable empire in the Caucasus region around the seventh and eighth centuries.

The narrative follows the religious debate among the Khazars, who had to choose between Christianity, Islam and Judaism. Pavić combines the material of three invented books, projecting them onto one another, and creates a new mythology in which historical facts mingle with figures drawn from the author's imagination and folk traditions.

Reading the novel offers a distinctive experience, opening a view into the depths of history and into the imaginative world of a writer with a singular vision. The paperback runs to 260 pages and was published by Helikon Kiadó in 2022 with a flexible card cover.
