Product description
It has been debated to this day whether the adopted son, that is, Károly Grósz "the father", really turned against János Kádár at the 1988 party conference, which pushed Kádárism and the Kádárists into the background, or whether the public mood demanding change simply swept away the general secretary who had been in power for thirty-two years. After the meeting, Kádár said in any case: "the Brutuses have appeared". Has Grósz really become Kádár's Brutus?
For many years, the aging János Kádár searched for who could be his successor. There were those he thought of himself, and there were also self-nominated candidates. As the succession became more and more urgent, Kádár delayed the decision, then chose Károly Grósz and elevated him to his side.
The book follows the drama of Kádár and Grósz with the help of archival sources, memories and personal interviews. The story is about the complicated relationship between two politicians, but these two people were the last two leaders of the communist dictatorship in Hungary. Their relationship - although it illustrates deeply human phenomena - is part of Hungarian history. It also belongs to us, because it determined our lives, or ours, or that of our parents and grandparents.
