Product description
The Crying Pilgrims is the third volume of essays in Hungarian by László Márton (1934). The author pursued dozens of trades, from road construction to diplomacy, and began his university studies at the Faculty of Humanities of ELTE, Oxford, and then the Sorbonne. As a student, he participated in the 1956 revolution, and spent two-thirds of his life abroad, in England and France.
The writings collected in the volume were written between 1998 and 2015. László Márton draws the XX. portraits of historical figures of the 20th century such as Herzl Tivadar, Jasszer Arafat, Albert Camus and Artúr Koestler, Ferenc Fejtő, famous in both Hungarian and French literature, and the Hungarian-Jewish poet András Mezei. Using his personal experiences, he explores the roots of the Israeli-Arab conflict from several sides, and analyzes Hungarian Holocaust literature.
The third part of the book, Autobiography-shards, gives an account of László Márton's eight decades rich in events and twists.
