The poetic novel of re-dreamers follows the journey of three generations of women from slavery to freedom in the state of Louisiana. In 1924, we see the elderly woman Josephine, who has become the proud owner of a thriving farm and is preparing for the wedding of her son and the birth of her grandson. Charlotte moves in next door with her husband, who longs for company, but the unexpected appearance and approach of the young white woman leads to unexpected conflicts. Meanwhile, Josephine's reminiscences reveal her childhood, the world of the southern plantation estates of the mid-nineteenth century. His mother and father, who work as slaves, prepare to escape and be liberated with the help of the religious community of the mysterious Revivalists. And in 2017, we get to know the single Ava, who moves in with her sick and lonely grandmother, Martha, to take care of her son. But the woman's dementia, who grew up as a descendant of white landowners, accelerates, and her prejudices against her grandson surface more and more as she deteriorates. Meanwhile, Ava also gets to know her mother, who works as a doula, with her circle of young pregnant girls. Sooner or later, she will have to decide where she will move forward in her life, whether she will follow the word of her ancestors and join a community that provides hope and support to women.
