Product description
This edition presents the material of Dezső Kosztolányi's first two volumes of short stories, Witchy Nights published in 1909 and Fools in 1911: twenty-nine texts were published in the former, fifteen in the latter. Our edition, like the previous pieces of the series that published short prose writings, is binding, i.e. we kept the original volume compositions, we considered the first editions as the basic text, this is supplemented by the differences of the individual versions in the Lapalj notes. There are short stories that were published more than a dozen times in contemporary newspapers and in the author's own volumes. The present edition also contains a number of interesting facts from the history of the press: at the time of the publication of Witches' Nights and Fools, in the territory of Hungary before Trianon, many newspapers were active, and Kosztolányi took advantage of the opportunities offered by this extremely rich network. Our volume is editio maior, the text communication and related notes are supplemented by a history of origin, publication and reception, subject and language explanations and an informative bibliography.
