Product description
"The world I saw when I was born no longer exists. I suspect I screamed at the top of my lungs - I'm not the kind of person to quietly suffer being tossed around against my will."
Khalaf Ahmad al-Habtoor knew from the moment he took his first breath that he had to leave his mark on this world. The man who became the energetic leader of the Al-Habtoor Group from a headstrong boy - a simple native of Barast - tells about the events of his long life in his autobiography. Reading his story, we too can experience the whirlwind of successes and failures, people and events, as well as the lessons learned over time.
The Autobiography of Khalaf Ahmad al-Habtoor is a provocative and inspiring account of the life of a man who predicted his future by simply imagining it.
The Autobiography of Khalaf Ahmad al-Habtoor is an extraordinary story about a child from Dubai who grew up to become the head of one of the world's most influential companies, the Al-Habtoor Group. Khalaf al-Habtoor, guided by his principles, unwavering self-confidence and courageous risk-taking, saw poverty as an incentive for material and spiritual ascension.
Khalaf al-Habtoor recalls the successes and failures of his life and the lessons learned from his experiences in this book, which is not in the least apologetic and is written with refreshing honesty. The world he describes is at least as full of life as it is inspiring, and it is full of amazing characters - from the surgeon who heals cows as a second job, to the Lebanese version of Jules Verne's Passepartout, we can meet many exciting characters in the book.
Khalaf al-Habtoor, who lived through the most important events in the history of the region, narrates his life with significant world events in the background. The establishment of the United Arab Emirates in 1971, the Gulf War of the early nineties or the terrorist attacks of 9/11 are only a few moments in the series of events that appear in the book, which make Khalaf al-Habtoor's autobiography a missing text for the political and social debate.
Khalaf Ahmad al-Habtoor is proud to be a native of the United Arab Emirates, yet deeply committed to making our world a better place. From a simple background, his early ambitions were modest: he dreamed of being able to move his family from their palm-leaf shack into a real house, and to one day own his own business. However, the plans of fate far exceeded even his wildest ideas.
In May 1970, he started his own business, Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterprises, with modest means. He has now become the chairman of the internationally recognized Al-Habtoor Group, but he was also a member of the United Arab Emirates Federal National Council and the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry. His group of companies operates luxury hotels in the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon and Hungary, as well as real estate development and distribution, car sales and rental, education and magazine publishing.
Khalaf al-Habtoor is a personality recognized worldwide not only for his business success, but also for his philanthropic activities, forward-looking political analyzes and support of international sports events, including tennis and equestrian polo.
He derives his life wisdom from the founding fathers of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikhs Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan and Rashid bin Saeed al-Maktoum, who helped him throughout his journey.
"My children and grandchildren are my lifeblood," writes al-Habtoor, a devoted husband and family man, father of six children and grandfather of twenty-five grandchildren. However, his caring nature extends beyond the family: his generosity and influence change thousands of lives.
