Product description
Csaba Károlyi is both a passionate and patient reader. He follows contemporary literature in a way that only a few people do today: he reads, re-reads, gets excited and grumbles, follows career developments, is happy with new writers, and is annoyed by solutions deemed wrong. He does not speak about literature to the profession, but, as he says, to the educated general public, to all those who, wherever they come from, find themselves in the works, here and now. It opens up to readers the novel, book of short stories, conversation book that they fell in love with, or helps them understand what might be wrong with it. He places himself in a book in such a way that he does not push himself to the fore - his reviews together give an idea of what our literature is like these days. And our life.
Csaba Károlyi was born in Debrecen in 1962. He graduated from the Faculty of Humanities of ELTE in 1986, and received his doctorate there in 1994. Between 1989-1999 he was the responsible editor of the Nappali ház literary and art review, in 1993-94 he was the editor of the JAK booklets, and between 1994-97 he was the president of the JAK. In 1994, he edited Tsipessel a láng. The volume entitled Studies on the latest Hungarian literature. Since 1996, he has been the editor of Élét és Irodalom, and since 2009 he has been the deputy editor-in-chief. He teaches at the ELTE Department of Aesthetics. He has been the leader of the ÉS quartets for ten years. Artisjus and Glass Ball award winner.
His books: Letting go, watching (essays, reviews, 1994), Lepkeháló (reviews, studies, 1998), Non finito (literary discussions, 2003), No Third Bridge (reviews, 2014), Something Always Happens (25 literary discussions, 2015) , ÉS-quartet 2009-2015 (literary criticism discussions, e-book, 2016)
