John Scalzi - Az last gyarmat (2019)

Product content: After his military service is over, John Perry is demobilized and spends his uneventful veteran years on the distant planet of Huckleberry, where he administers justice in the settlers' hen and goat lawsuits as a village justice of the peace for the Colonial Alliance. He lives with his wife, Jane Sagan, who used to serve in the Special Forces, they cultivate land on their several-acre farm, and watch their adopted daughter, Zoë, grow with pride.

However, eight years of village idyll are suddenly turned upside down when the head of the Colonial Association knocks on their door. The colonial empire of humans has drifted to the edge of a political crisis: the former colonies established with the help of a handful of settlers have grown so strong over the years that they have been demanding the right to colonize their own planets for some time. Who else could be a more capable governor of the headstrong settlers from ten different worlds preparing for the ominously named Roanoke than Perry, the justice of the peace and Sagan, who does not tolerate contradiction? The Colonial Alliance has high hopes for the new colony, but not only because it can tame the disaffected colonies, but also because it is driven by a more grandiose and lofty goal, which also throws John and Jane into the deepest waters of galactic politics, intrigue and intrigue. not to mention the shadow of war hanging over their heads.
