Or we can call it a weapon. This is what fifteen-year-old Will slipped into his jeans. His brother Shawn was recently murdered and Will knows the rules. No crying! No whispering! Take revenge! That's why he sets out with the pistol, the weapon that still belonged to his brother. He angrily gets into the elevator on the eighth. You know who to look for. Or not?.

The Long Way Down uses short, intense, choppy, narrative poems to take a fast, angry, dazzlingly amazing look at the subject of teenagers and gun violence, as only Jason Reynolds can.
