In her essay “If We Had a War With Us,” Janne Teller holds a slanted mirror in front of comfortable Europeans, who often cannot imagine themselves in the situation of others. The harsh tone of the public discourse on refugees inspired an instructive yet unspoken political curriculum aimed primarily at young people. What if we Europeans, for example, had to flee to Egypt from a war in our country? What if Hungarians and Austrians quarreled in refugee camps in Africa? What if the biggest problem for teenage teens wasn’t that they didn’t get the coolest cell phone, but let’s say how to get fake papers for the family so they can escape the horrors? The protagonist of the second person in the story is a fourteen-year-old boy. We don't know his name - it could be anyone. "It can happen to you too. You too can be poor, persecuted, excluded," is the main message of the thought-provoking, volume-provoking little volume.
