Jane Austen - Lady Susan
Product description
Jane Austen's lesser-known work follows the sly machinations of the newly widowed, beautiful and perky Lady Susan. The lady tries to ensure a financially favorable life for herself, but at the same time she tries to force her obedient, timid and intimidated teenage daughter, Frederica, into an unhappy marriage. Lady Susan sometimes falters in her actions, but she is always ready to lie and deceive just to get what she wants.
Lady Susan is an excellent character study, and it is interesting that Jane Austen only writes about the declining London gentlemen's society in this novel.
The volume also contains one of the works of the writer from her youth. The Women's Letters flashed some images of life. We get to know the worried mother who introduces her daughters to the company, the young lady suffering from disappointment in love, the poor girl who is humiliated by the noble lady and the well-to-do lady who is courted by a poor young man.
