Product description
Hédi Fried is a writer and psychologist. He was born in 1924 on Máramarossziget. In 1944, he was deported to Auschwitz together with his parents and brother. He has lived in Sweden since 1945. "- Take care of your sister! he shouted desperately, and I quickly let him go. Maybe a little too fast. In a split second, the thought crossed my mind: he will die, and we will survive. I don't want to go with him. I want to live. But as soon as we parted, I started to cry. I was overwhelmed with guilt. Suddenly I saw my young mother through the eyes of an SS officer. He looked old in the dark shawl, with his teary eyes. Why didn't I get her to stop crying? Why didn't I take the scarf off her head? Why? Why…?" Hédi Fried gave many lectures about his experiences during the Holocaust throughout Sweden, mostly in schools and universities. He summarized the students' questions and the answers to them in the book "My questions and answers about the Holocaust", which will soon be published by our publisher. For his work, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Stockholm, and received numerous awards and prizes - among others, he was awarded the Jad Vasem award, as well as the Theodor Herzl and Raoul Wallenberg awards.
