Product description
This book is the first accurate and complete atlas of the anatomy of the human body made with three-dimensional computer reconstruction. First, it presents individual parts of the body by organ system, then by region, with a wonderful figure on each pair of pages.
The preparation of the illustrations for the book began with the digitization of thousands of cross-sectional images of the body within the framework of the Visible Human Project program of the National Library of Medicine of the United States. The precise identification and mapping of hundreds of elements of each cross-sectional image was carried out using new computer modeling programs. Knowing the relationship between the contours of the images and the individual cross-sectional images made it possible to reconstruct the three-dimensional forms. The final image was assembled after the contours and the surface were applied.
The three-dimensional images created in this way are included in the downloadable content included with the book as a gift, grouped by body region and organ system. The three-dimensional image of the body parts can be rotated around a vertical axis, so that it can be studied from all directions and taken apart: the skin can be removed, then the muscles, so that the organs, vascular network and nerves located underneath become more visible. (Attention: The downloadable program is designed for Windows 2000, XP and VISTA digital environments, so it may not start with newer operating systems.)
The book, which exploits the possibilities offered by today's state-of-the-art technology and includes anatomical names in both Hungarian and Latin, should not be missing from the library of any educational institution. We recommend it primarily to high school, college, and university students preparing for graduation.
