Product description
Hadewijch lived in the 13th century, probably in the Antwerp area. He was the master of a mystical women's circle of begina communities. The Beguines were members of a 12th-century women's religious movement that started in the Low Countries. They lived in communities, but were not bound by an eternal vow to apostolic life. Hadewijch wrote down his visions, letters and poems for his students and followers. She must have been a woman of noble birth, she wrote in her mother tongue, she knew Latin and French well, and she was intimately familiar with the literature and music of her time. He is the first known author of Dutch/Flemish literature by name. He created a new genre with his mystical love poetry. He wrote his poems to popular tunes of the time, so we can call them songs, although we have no information on whether they were sung, and if so, in what form. All his prose works have already been published in Hungarian translation under the title A lelek nyeljeán, now we publish all his songs, both in raw translation and faithful translation. In the volume, we will also publish the original Middle Dutch text and the tunes that have been discovered so far. Thanks to the true-to-form translations, the songs can also be sung in Hungarian.
