Product description
"However, they are not like that with most accents, they relate to them emotionally, and to each of them differently. One acts on them like some kind of antidote, they become more attentive when they hear another, because a certain tone of speech suggests to them a higher intellect, they find the third amusing, the the fourth as suspicious. The Hungarian accent as the most inelegant. A ready-to-wear garment with a simple cut, made of cheap but durable material. Let's say, a coat that anyone can wear, but it doesn't dress anyone up. The wear of stubborn people is such a simple thing, to whom anyone can say anything, about their habits they don't change, and this sometimes manifests itself in life as a favorable quality, as constancy, and sometimes as an unpleasant trait, as barbarism."
Black and white Dracula, horror films, drug addiction and a funeral in a vampire's cloak... We Hungarians mostly only know clichés about Béla Lugosi, who is one of the most famous Hungarians in the world. However, his life could be the subject of several films or novels. Tamás Gyurkovics has just written one.
Akcentus focuses on Béla Lugosi's years after emigration. The narrator of the novel, the fictional figure of Lugosi's secretary, was made up of real people by the author. The fictionalized biography begins at the end, from here it moves backwards in time to the point where Lugosi's story took a fatal turn...
The third volume of Tamás Gyurkovics depicts a vividly authentic Béla Lugosi. The work was preceded by serious research. Through the golden age of American film production, we understand what that certain "continental charm and old-world manner" is like, which was both attractive to the movie stars of the time, but - with the advent of the sound film - confined Hungarian Hollywood to an increasingly narrow box. But is there a resurgence of the celebrity walk?
