The GL.iNet GL-MT5000 is a wired VPN gateway designed for home users, small offices and anyone who wants more control over their own network. Using WireGuard it reaches up to 1,100 Mbps, and with hardware-accelerated OpenVPN-DCO up to 1,000 Mbps. Three 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports, multi-WAN support, DPI protection and intelligent traffic management complete the feature set.

The unit is built around a 2.0 GHz quad-core MediaTek processor with 1 GB of DDR4 memory and 8 GB of eMMC storage, and runs OpenWrt 21.02, which allows more advanced configurations and additional packages. Its deep packet inspection blocks malicious traffic and lets you manually block specific applications, domains and IP addresses. A dashboard shows real-time application usage and traffic trends over seven days.

SQM and dynamic QoS help keep latency low during video calls, streaming or online gaming, even when the network is busy. A USB-C 3.0 port supports fast external storage and 3G/4G/5G modems as a backup connection. The router can also serve as a home NAS or DLNA media server.
