Georges Simenon - A bűnbak (2021)

Spencer Ashby is a high school teacher in a small American town where almost everyone knows everyone. He came to the community as a young man and does his work conscientiously and willingly. However, one winter evening, his life until then changes completely: a criminal case, the death of Belle, starts talking in the town, and Ashby suddenly turns from a reliable member of the community into a disturbing element. Some suddenly treat him as a suspicious outsider, and his wife is also beginning to distance himself from him.

What can someone who has adapted to the rules all his life do in this situation? The mysterious neighbor, Mrs. Katz, the wife of the big businessman, might be able to clarify Ashby, but they don't know each other at all. Will the man manage to defend his honor, or will the accusations brought against him be justified?
