The importance and role of France, especially Paris, in the history of modern fine art in the 20th century is well known - a huge literature is available to those interested, which enables an approach to the period, artistic life and different stylistic trends. The visual artists who emigrated from Hungary were active participants and actors of this intellectual effervescence. The author compiled the biographies of painters and sculptors of Hungarian origin with many years of research - the special feature of the volume is that, in addition to the internationally renowned Endre Bálint, Béla Czóbel, István Farkas, Nicolas Schöffer, Lajos Tihanyi or Victor Vasarely, it also presents those artists who are little known here, who have played or are playing a significant role in French artistic life. With the help of nearly 300 illustrations, the introduction and biographies vividly reflect the current historical circumstances and cultural background - intellectual currents, exhibitions, human relationships. The volume is not only an important handbook for professionals, but also offers its readers exciting intellectual discoveries.
