    The cause of the disease is the alcohol-soluble component of gluten in wheat, gliadin.
    In addition, similar proteins in rye, barley and presumably oats also increase inflammation.
    Celiac disease is treated by following a gluten-free diet. If this is followed completely, the symptoms will disappear.
