In a not very understanding community, it is not easy for an HIV-positive teenager. You have to deal with your fears, accept yourself and your illness, and accept yourself, especially when you fall in love for the first time in your life. Simone Garcia-Hampton is starting a new school, and this time everything is different. She makes real friends, becomes famous as the director of her school play, and flirts with Miles, the boy who makes her melt every time she sees him. The last thing you want is to find out you're HIV-positive, because things have been pretty bad lately... well, lately. It's easy to keep your illness under control, but not nearly as much to keep it a secret all the time. As Simone and Miles warm to each other - when it comes to much more than shy little kisses - she begins to feel an uneasiness that is more troubling than the butterflies in her stomach. She knows she has to tell him that she's positive, especially if things lead to sex between them, but the thought of how Miles will react scares her to death. Then she finds an anonymous note in her school locker: "I know you have HIV. You have until Thanksgiving to break up with Miles. Otherwise, everyone else will know." Simone still instinctively wants to protect her secret, but as she sees more and more the prejudice and fear of the people around her, she wonders if the only way she can stand up to them is to face the haters, and stand up for yourself...
