Vita nuova is the sequel to Házimurik. Eliąka tells the story of the second volume of the autobiographical trilogy in which Hrabal makes his wife the narrator. They are living the beginning years of their marriage and new life. In this period from 1955 to 1962, the writer does not publish yet, the writer only prepares: as a waste paper baler, then as a theater stagehand - and all the while as a consistent pub visitor, he gathers experiences and gains experience among his artist friends. Consistently always somewhere else...
Hrabal is still talking about his most personal things. About how he becomes a writer in these difficult years; how he fights - primarily with himself, his own low self-confidence, his anxieties - for the coveted goal of becoming an "ace", "indoor champion and world champion" in literature.
