Bódi Péter - Engedetlenek

"...I would be ahead if all those pampered dicks weren't holding me back," says one of the characters in Péter Bódi's third novel, and anyone could say that, because that's what it's about - the constant struggle of being held back. The writer seems to be most interested in where things bend, slip aside, and how this deviation pushes everyone towards the worst infinity. The common point in the stories of parents who feed their children to death or the first lieutenant who makes pedophile videos off-duty is the indifference that characterizes the characters. The looseness of language that characterized the two earlier novels can be found here as well, but the human destinies appearing in the multi-threaded story of The Disobedient focus on empty relationships, violence or indifference with sharper contours. It is both difficult and easy to relate to this book, because the atmosphere of the novel brings to mind the distressing feeling of everyday life, which actually becomes powerful by resonating with the reader's deepest anxieties.
