The coconut palm is believed to have originated in Polynesia, but is now widespread throughout the tropical coasts. The coconut is actually the seed of this palm tree. This seed is surrounded by a thick fibrous shell, which turns yellow as it ripens. This shell is removed, so the coconut is usually sold in stores without it. Underneath the hard shell is the white intestinal tissue, which is grated.

Use: for cakes, fillings, creams, ice creams.
