The son of King Matthias, János Corvin, brilliantly demonstrated his ability to successfully lead an army against the Turks and resist the aggressive efforts of the Bosnian Pasha. To the best of his ability, he welded the Slavonia entrusted to his care into unity, and during his tenure as ban, the antagonism between the Croatian, Hungarian and Dalmatian nobility, which had escalated into local fights, ended.
However, politics still did not spare Mátyás's son, who, showing no small ability, skillfully balanced the interests of power and regained more and more of his rightful inheritance from the lords. The camp of the middle nobility, which wanted to see János Corvin as its leader, began to grow again, but the other side, the former opponents and enemies of the prince, tried with all their might to prevent this.
In Corvin, Venice also saw an excellent general, a man who honestly handles the money that the republic entrusted to him for the purposes of the war against the Turks. The last years of the prince's shortened life were spent in constant combat, winning more and more victories over the armies of the Pasha of Bosnia, while he was forced to face a series of intrigues and attacks against him.
Then came the time when he gained a positional advantage over King Ulászló, who did not yet have a male heir from his new wife, but Corvin had a son. This fact even turned the queen against him out of fear of power.
