Product description
The only, illegitimate son of the great ruler was treated like a stepfather by historical memory for a long time. Since Queen Beatrix had no heir, Mátyás nominated him to the throne. He tried to be recognized as his legal successor, but his sudden death prevented him from doing so.
After the death of his father, Prince János Corvin faced hard times. The ecclesiastical and secular lords - who did not accept Mátyás's decisions and only had their own interests in mind - demanded a share of his inheritance in various titles and did everything to prevent his accession to the throne. At the same time, Mátyás's widow, Beatrix, also worked against him, since she definitely wanted to remain queen if she could no longer be queen. Under these circumstances, the prince had to grow up quickly in order to effectively represent his interests.
The written materials from the pen of Zömmel's political opponents and enemies have remained for posterity, which suggest that János Corvin did not even come close to his father in terms of preparation, education, political sense and willingness to act. He was partly judged based on this, painting a false picture of his personality, since his later activities and his successful battles against the Turks in the southern region prove just the opposite.
János Corvin's shortened life was accompanied by political scheming, scheming, intrigue and gossip, not sparing his private life either.
I wonder how the young man's life would have turned out if the lords who swore his loyalty to his father had not abandoned him? How much would our history have changed if Ulászló Jagelló, who was unfit to rule in many ways - or as we have been referring to since then: László Dobzse - was replaced by the son of Mátyás Hunyadi on the throne of the country?
The author's three-volume work seeks answers to these questions as well, which presents the domestic and foreign political relations and events of the time in a plastic and exciting way.
