Growing up in a loving family, the lives of Liz, Marty and Jules suddenly change tragically. The brothers are sent to an institution, where they are separated from each other. Liz and Marty adapt to the new environment in their own way, but Jules, the narrator of the story, withdraws into himself. He makes friends with Alva, who is even lonelier than himself, and only years later does he realize what she means to him. Growing up, all three believe they have managed to process the trauma, but the wounds of the past are not so easy to heal. Jules desperately wants to make their father's dream come true. As a successful man, Marty lives in bondage to forced actions, the irresistible Liz is tormented by her fear of disappointment. Jules finally meets the love of his life, and a new chapter begins in his life: loneliness ends, he finds himself, and maybe the brothers can get closer to each other again.
