An unattainable advantage.
Pro meets 5G. The A14 Bionic rockets past all other smartphone chips. The Pro camera system takes low-light photography to an unprecedented level - and the iPhone 12 Pro Max can even improve it. And the Ceramic Shield faceplate performs four times better in the drop test. Let's see what you can do!
It looks like glass. It's actually armor.
The strongest glass cover on a smartphone has always belonged to the iPhone. With the iPhone 12 Pro, the only way to surpass the durability of previous models is to bring in a brand new material.
Nano-sized ceramic crystals
This is where the Ceramic Shield invisibly enters the picture. We incorporated nano-sized ceramic crystals into the inner structure of the glass, which are harder than most metals. Sounds simple, right? It's actually incredibly complicated - ceramic isn't transparent. By adjusting the type of crystals and the level of crystallinity, we managed to create a special composition that fully exploits the resistance of ceramics while remaining transparent. This technological breakthrough made it possible to use Ceramic Shield in our displays. Now it's the first to appear on a smartphone, and it's stronger than any smartphone glass.
Double ion exchange process
It is very important that the glass is not only strong, but also scratch-resistant. That's why we made it resistant to everyday scratches and wear with the same double ion exchange process that we successfully applied to the back glass.
Four times stronger protection when dropped
In addition to the Ceramic Shield, there is something else that makes the front face really tough: the display is flush with the edge of the phone, so it provides even more protection. Compared to before, it withstands drops four times better - iPhone has not yet made such great progress in this field in a year.
Water world champion.
Market leader, IP68 waterproof rating
Super fast mobile internet. Hello, 5G!
5G is the new dimension of mobile internet on the iPhone. It is capable of unprecedented speeds and works better even on congested networks.4 From now on, downloading large files and streaming high-quality HDR movies on the go is no problem. It is. Annoying. Stuttering. Without. Of all smartphones, the iPhone can handle the most 5G bands, so you can take advantage of 5G in more places. This incredible speed also opens up unparalleled opportunities in the future of apps.
The fastest smartphone chip. Again.
The new capabilities of the iPhone 12 Pro require a fast chip. Very fast. One way to speed it up is to build more transistors into the chip. For this, either the size of the chip must be increased or the transistors must be reduced.
11.8 billion transistors
We decided to reduce the size. iPhone 12 Pro is powered by the industry's first 5-nanometer chip. This chip has components that are atomic in size, meaning that transistors can be packed incredibly close together. In other words, the energy gets from one to the other faster - and less of it is lost on the way. This is the secret of how the A14 Bionic can be faster and more energy efficient at the same time.
16-core Neural Engine
11 trillion operations per second
The performance of the Neural Engine has increased by leaps and bounds, as it now has 16 cores instead of 8. This makes high-performance machine learning tasks up to 80% faster - for example, improving the details of photos with Deep Fusion. The processor's special machine learning accelerator modules have also become 70% faster, and any application can take advantage of the chip's increased performance.
Brand new image signal processing unit
4K HDR video recording with Dolby Vision technology
And what does all this mean for you? Lots of it. Perceptible performance increase on the entire system. More lifelike photos thanks to Smart HDR 3. More detailed, high-quality videos thanks to the new temporal noise reduction in the image signal processing unit. And videos encoded in Dolby Vision format on your phone instead of computers in professional studios. A chip comparable to the A14 Bionic has never been made, and we can't wait to see what wonders you create with it.
AR at the speed of light.
The iPhone has been designed in every element for use with AR, but the iPhone 12 Pro's LiDAR scanner opens up completely new possibilities.
More information for more accuracy. Detailed depth map in a few nanoseconds
A LiDAR scanner determines the absolute distance of objects by emitting invisible light beams and measuring how long it takes for them to travel from the transmitter to the objects and back to the sensor. LiDAR uses iOS 14's depth sensing frameworks to generate massive amounts of high-resolution data that cover the camera's entire field of view. It repeats the emission of the beams every few nanoseconds, continuously collecting the measurement data and thereby making the depth map more and more accurate. This completely redefines the AR experience.
