Amitav Ghosh - A puskakereskedő legendája

Rare book dealer Deen Datta's quiet life is completely turned upside down after he hears a forgotten Bengali legend at a reception about the story of Manasza Devi, the mysterious goddess of snakes, and the unknown Gun Dealer. Deen is taken by Tipu, a big-mouthed, enterprising young boy, to Puska Island, home to the snake goddess's shrine, and here she also meets Rafi, who eventually helps her interpret the written traces of the legend. However, the visit will have unexpected consequences. Deen drifts into a special journey that takes him through complicated threads from India to Los Angeles and Venice, while the people he once visited on the island disappear one by one. During his adventures, old friend Cinta, a cultural historian from Venice, and Piya, a dedicated biologist and conservationist, help him to find the connections in the mysterious story that everyone has suddenly become a part of. During the cultural historical investigation, the background of the legend born in the magical environment of the mangrove forests, the world of seventeenth-century Venetian sea trade is revealed, and finally we can find out how the threads intertwine with the migrations of modern man and climate change.
The Legend of the Gun Dealer is a beautifully written novel that easily spans space and time. Our world balancing on the edge of the precipice, growing fault lines and unstoppable changes, but also a story of hope. Around the world, the award-winning author's folkloristic work is contemporary literature in every detail.
