Product description
In a country of culture, people don't constantly sing about the homeland, and the homeland is very happy", wrote Endre Ady in one of his newspaper articles. However, his poems are about almost nothing else than the conditions prevailing in the country.
His poetry is a cultural critique of Hungarian conditions. Whatever he wrote about, politics, love, faith, death, every line is permeated by pain, indignation, bitterness, disgust and the elementary desire for change.
In the century that has passed since his death, everything that he criticized with such a sharp eye has remained a living problem, and Ady's poetry has lost none of its freshness. For this, of course, in addition to his clairvoyance, he needed the exceptional power of language and the freedom of his imagination, with which he created the metaphors of the Hungarian fallow, the poet of Hortobágy, the lost horseman and others. There is something hopeful about his incorruptible critical attitude and ruthless judgement: if he had not trusted in change, he would hardly have wasted his time shaping the reality of the domestic moorland into an unsettling vision.
