The Builders of the Western Kingdom takes place at the twilight of the reign of the Carolingian dynasty, around 850 CE. As architects, players compete to build spectacular structures on the king's newly designated estate in order to impress their king and maintain their noble status. Players must collect raw materials, hire helpers and keep an eye on their workers. This is a period full of treasures. Rival architects will stop at nothing to make your constructions more difficult. Can you remain honest even in such circumstances, or do you prefer thieves and organized crime as your business partners?

In Masters of the Western Kingdom, players aim to have as many victory points (VyP) as possible at the end of the game. Points can be obtained by building different structures and by continuing to build the cathedral. During the game, you often have to make decisions on moral issues, but the judgment about how virtuous a player is is only made at the end of the game. Some dark deals may still fit in, but be careful because it's easy to overdo it and there will be consequences. The game ends after a predetermined number of constructions.
