The two-volume work presenting contemporary France is published jointly by the CUF Francophone University Center in Szeged and the Swiss Europa Varietas Institute, translated by 20 outstanding Hungarian researchers in the field. Its aim is, on the one hand, to give the general public interested in France a book written with scientific sophistication, but at the same time easy to understand and interesting, and on the other hand, as a specialist book, to provide students with broad knowledge in university education about one of the most important founding members of the European Union, which plays a key role in EU decision-making. The first volume reviews the most important results of French domestic policy and French foreign policy in chronological order, organized around each French presidency. It presents the most important debates and results, and occasionally a defining event of public life, as well as the geopolitical contexts of diplomatic decisions.
