"Even better than the TV movie." —Mary Ellen F. Dennard, Amazon

Winston Graham's extensive family history still captivates readers.
Returning to his homeland, Cornwall, from the bloodstorm of the American War of Independence, the main character can't wait to see his loved ones again. His joy does not last long: his father died, the family estate fell to the thirtieth, and his beloved became engaged to Ross's cousin, Francis Poldark. However, his compassion for the bitterly suffering miners and farmers of the area prompts Poldark to take in a starving creature rescued from a fight at the fairground - and with this act, he permanently changes his own life...

"I boldly recommend it to anyone who doesn't despise good reading material." —Dianne Barrette, Amazon
