William Golding - A tower (2021)

The dean of Stilbury sees a vision, and because he believes himself to be God's chosen one, he sets out with an iron will to make his vision come true, to build a tower that pierces the sky. Sick man. He rushes towards his impossible goal with shrewd madness and insane cunning, runs over everyone he loves, shatters the lives of those around him, in order to build the tower even against hell. By the time the building is finished, he has lost everything. His comforting angel turns into a devil with a whip, his slain love into a bewitching witch in the dead, his friend and master into an enemy - and he must learn that God did not choose him for the job...
Summit arches rising into the sky, gargoyles with depressed faces, gloom and sunlight shining through glass windows, reverence and passion, a building carved out of stone blocks, sentences carved out of stone blocks, a book carved out of stone blocks. A novel edited with the perfection of Gothic cathedrals.
