Product description
The special feature of this lens is the Tilt function. In what situations can Tilt help the photographer? If we use a basic 50mm f1.4 lens and have several subjects in the picture, then with an aperture of f1.4 only those that are in the same plane will be sharp. The rest of the image will be blurred, including our subjects out of focus. In certain situations, it may be necessary to keep all subjects in focus without narrowing the aperture. This is where the Tilt lens comes into play. Tilt means tilting the lens. According to the Scheimpflug rule, the plane of the film or the plane of the sensor, the main plane of the lens and the plane of focus intersect in a line. The Tilt lens takes advantage of this. If our lens can be tilted and we know this rule, we can tilt the plane of focus to any position favorable to us. For example, in the case of a food photo, we can not only increase the depth of field by aperture, as it reduces the strength of the background wash, but by choosing the lens, we can achieve that the plane of focus is in the plane of the table, and the food on the plate is sharp even with the aperture open, while we do not have to give up the background wash neither.
It can also be a great choice for photographing buildings. Many people may be familiar with the situation of photographing a building from below, but the walls of the building begin to lean inward. This is the trapezoidal distortion, which results from the fact that if the camera is tilted upwards, the wall planes of the building will not be parallel to the plane of the sensor. This trapezoidal distortion can be eliminated by adjusting the Tilt objective, which allows the building's wall planes to be brought back parallel to the plane of the sensor.
Thanks to the Tilt function, we can add many interesting perspectives to our photos. What's more, the TTArtisan 50mm f1.4 Tilt lens has the fine and quiet shuttering option typical of Cine lenses, so it can also be confidently used for video tasks.
