The Valerian Islands are the jewels of the Obero Sea. It has long been a center of naval trade, so the inhabitants of the islands have fought for control over its shores throughout history. Eventually a man, Dorgalua Oberyth, rose up and ended this conflict. History only refers to him as the "Dynast-King". King Dorgalua sought to end the hatred between the islanders, and for half a century prosperity reigned on the islands of Valeria.

However, after the king's death, a civil war broke out between three factions vying for power: the Bakrams, who made up the majority of Valeria's nobles; the Galgastans, who made up the largest part of the population of the islands; and the Walisters, who were but few. The islands were soon divided between the Bakrams and the Galgastans, and an uneasy peace reigned in the countryside. However, no one believed that it could stay that way...
