Product description
1947 - the year of the revolution. It was then that the hopeful multi-party system after the war was hit by the first spectacular attack: the conceptual trial series began, during which many leading smallholder politicians were "convinced" of the charge of overthrowing the republic. In this way, it was possible to remove the party's general secretary, Béla Kovács, the prime minister, Ferenc Nagy, and the president of the parliament, Béla Varga, along with many others, from political life, and to weaken the Small Farmers' Party to such an extent that it could no longer stand in the way of the communist takeover.
In this political play, with which the prototype of future conceptual trials was tested, the main role was assigned to the organization called the Hungarian Brotherhood. This far-right secret society of so-called Horthy reactionaries was declared the coordinator of the anti-republican conspiracy. But what exactly was this Secret Society?
Nóra Szekér's book seeks the answer to this question. During the revision of the distorted image created in concept trials, we can learn about the methodology of the communist takeover and exercise of power, and the working methods of the state defense agencies. The world of conspiracy, the organizational structure, practical operation and political-social role of a secret society unfold before us. The history of the Community also shades the history of the political systems in which it played a role.
NÓRA SZEKÉR was born in 1976. He obtained his doctorate in 2009 and is currently a scientific associate of the Institute and Archive for Researching the History of System Changes. Since 2009, he has been a lecturer at Pázmány Péter Catholic University.
