Elizabeth Carlson is walking through the hell of hells - in other words, grieving.

She was married to Grady for eight years, she bore him four children, he was the love of her life, but he died. The prognosis was dire from the beginning, but Liz never gave up hope that Grady could recover. How could she, once he was her everything?

Half a year later, she tries to pick up the pieces of her shattered life and get the children to school on time. Both seem like impossible undertakings. Everything seems impossible these days.

When Ben Tyler moves in next door, Liz drowns in grief and pain, her children rebel, she feels like she will never catch up. He doesn't have time for nosy friends, he doesn't want unsolicited help, but Ben gives him both. And he doesn't just want to help in the yard and mowing the lawn. Ben wants more from Liz. Much more than he could ever give after what happened.

Liz tries to process her husband's death, struggles through the five stages of grief, and realizes that she has much more to give than she previously thought. A new love grows in his heart as he peels away the guilt and pain and realizes that life is more important than death.
