Patriotic steampunk. This is the most apt expression for what Tamás Pataki does. After his first novel Absinthe Turns to Blood and Makes the Devil a Horse in Murokffy, which was a great success, the author comes up with a fictional historical play again, a horror story of a millennial Turkish subjugation. We cannot reveal more than that, as the adventure novel piles up surprise upon surprise, click after click, and it would be a crime to spoil the reader's experience. However, we can say that the work is an extremely weighty parable, its language is virtuoso, its wit is impressive, and the cultural history education required to write such a work is very respectable. Also, that such tasteful, wonderful-wonderful-curious book madness is rarely found on the market these days.
