Product description
Twenty-five years ago, the Smile Foundation just started with the help of a few businessmen who wanted to do something for sick children. Today, the former initiative has become a stable organization with a well-developed professional strategy, story-telling and art therapy programs developed for chronically ill children.
This jubilee publication guides the reader through the history of the foundation's professional development with interesting case studies and descriptions of colorful therapeutic methods. The volume is divided into three large parts: Past, Present and Future. Studies of the Past provide insight into programs that have been running successfully for years, but have now been closed or are continuing in a different form. The Present part is about Smile Therapy programs that are still in operation today, while the Future part can read about methods that can inspire the work of therapy professionals.
It is clear from the studies in the volume that Smile therapists work in difficult terrain - for example in pediatric oncology or acute psychiatric wards - under constantly changing conditions, which way of working requires a high degree of improvisation and adaptability. However, difficulties do not deter these professionals, they always find some creative solution to the problems and challenges that arise. That is why the central element of this publication is the innovation that also appears in the symbol of the branchy tree of life, which is rooted in the valuable professional experiences accumulated in the past and grows new branches and leaves in therapeutic practice year after year.
